Preparing for Worship on Sunday
By matt on May 14, 2012 – 4:00 PM

As we prepare for worship this week, I would like to try something new.  We have a corporate reading of the gospel every week that is typically just one or two verses.  I think it would be great if we as a body could memorize this portion of Scripture each week.  This can give some structure to memorizing Scripture, if that is not one of your strong points.  It will also help us to meditate on the gospel throughout the week.  Families can participate in this memorization together, and even talk about the Scripture during the week together.  As we come together in worship, we can proclaim the gospel together even more heartily, having practiced all week.

This week’s memory verse is 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NIV): God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Here is the order of worship for Sunday:

  • Scripture for Meditation: Isaiah 35
  • Call to Worship: portions of Psalm 95
  • Hymn of Adoration: #115 “All Creatures of Our God and King” (all hymns found in Trinity Hymnal)
  • Reading of the Law: 1 John 1:8-9
  • Words of Assurance: 1 John 2:1
  • Hymn of Praise: #308 “Jesus Paid It All”
  • Reading of the Gospel: 2 Corinthians 5:21
  • Scripture Reading: Mark 7:24-37
  • Sermon: “Ears to Hear and a Tongue to Proclaim”
  • Hymn of Response: #650 “I Will Sing of My Redeemer”
  • Hymn of Thanksgiving: #253 “There Is a Fountain Filled with Blood

Preparing for Worship
By matt on May 9, 2012 – 8:37 AM

I have had some folks ask me about having access to the Scriptures and songs for worship before Sunday morning, so I have decided to begin posting them here every week.  I hope this will give families an opportunity to prepare together for worship, and individuals a chance for deeper engagement with the Scriptures we consider each week.  This also gives an opportunity to teach the hymns to your children before worship (if they don’t already know them) so that they can more fully participate in the service on Sunday.

If you are just visiting our site to learn about Grace & Peace, this will give you some idea of what our service looks like each Sunday.  There are elements to the service that are not listed: there are prayers throughout the service; we take an offering; and we participate in the Lord’s Supper every Sunday.

Here is the order for this Sunday:

  • Scripture for Meditation: Isaiah 29:13-24
  • Call to Worship: Isaiah 43:1-3a
  • Hymn: “How Firm a Foundation” #94 (All hymns found in Trinity Hymnal)
  • Reading of the Law: Deuteronomy 6:4-7
  • Assurance of Pardon: Lamentations 3:22-23
  • Hymn: “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” #32
  • Reading of the Gospel: Jeremiah 32:40
  • Sermon: Mark 7:1-23, “Out of the Heart of Man”
  • Hymn: “Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me” #500
  • Hymn: “Gloria Patri” #734
